Unit run time is the time required to complete a particular operation on one piece part.

Production rate is the quantity per hour (or some other unit of time) that the machine running a particular operation can sustain.

Mathematically the one is simply the inverse of the other.  If T is unit run time and R is production rate, then generally T=1/R and conversely R=1/T.

Both entities are regarded as measured or derived standards created and maintained by manufacturing engineers or process engineers.

Unit run times are typically expressed in hours, sometimes using up to three decimal places (milli-hours).

Production rates are typically expressed in some unit of measure per hour.  Such units of measure include pounds, feet or pieces as well as other standard units of measure.
